The Jewish Enigma

Modern Israel's Existence and Preservation Are Powerful Evidence of God's Existence and Covenant Faithfulness

One of the strongest historical evidences for God's existence and covenant faithfulness is the remarkable preservation of the Jewish people. Consider the Philistines, Moabites, Edomites, Amalekites, Amorites, Hittites, and Jebusites.

Every one of these ancient nations has disappeared as a distinct people. Yet Israel has endured.

Israel endured through the Assyrian conquest (722 BC), the Babylonian exile (586 BC), Persian restoration (539 BC), Greek oppression (332–167 BC), Roman destruction and dispersion (AD 70-135), the medieval expulsions (AD 1182-1497).

Israel also endured the Inquisition (AD 1478-1834), the pogroms of Eastern Europe (AD 1881-1921), and even the Holocaust (AD 1933-1945), when six million Jews were murdered, the Jewish people were never annihilated. Against all historical odds, they survived, and in 1948 they were reestablished as a nation in their ancient homeland.

Most conservative Bible scholars see this extraordinary preservation not as a historical accident, but as compelling evidence that God exists and has remained faithful to His covenant promises.
