Lesson 2: Knocking on Heaven’s Door

October 19 & 20, 2019

When We Intercede God Intervenes

Intercessory Prayer Supplies What We Can’t Supply

Luke 11:5 Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6 a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ New International Version

Intercessory Prayer Must Be Bold And Persistent

Luke 11:7 And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ New International Version

Luke 11:8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. New International Version

Luke 11:9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will findknock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” New International Version

Ask

Seek

Knock

Asking Is General Prayer

Seeking Is Praying For Answers To Perplexing Questions

Knocking Is Praying For A Door Of Opportunity To Open

Colossians 4:2 Be faithful to pray as intercessors who are fully alert and giving thanks to God. And please pray for me, that God will open a door of opportunity for us to preach the revelation of the mystery of Christ, for whose sake I am imprisoned. The Passion Translation

Intercessory Prayer Releases God’s Bread

Luke 11:11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? New International Version

Luke 11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” New International Version

John 16:7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. Amplified Bible
